This Might Hurt Tarot is a modern deck in the Rider-Waite-Smith tradition. Keeping time-honored symbolism and imagery, but losing the medieval context, this the This Might Hurt Tarot Deck is designed to be both easy to read and highly relatable. Each court card is a portrait of a real person in the authors life. Clothing and scenery are modernized, diversity is embraced, and queerness is lovingly acknowledged.
This Might Hurt Tarot was originally self-published via a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2019. Since then it has been published traditionally, and is now under Sterling Ethos, an imprint of Hachette. The self-published version was packaged in a black box with gold foil and included gilded edges and a black and white guidebook. The published edition features a full color box and book and a bonus card title This Might Hurt/This Might Heal. This was at one time a Special Limited Edition of This Might Hurt Tarot published by Liminal 11, but it is since out of stock. This Might Hurt Lenormand
Currently only available in French, This Might Hurt Lenormand is a modern and queer-centered take on the traditional Lenormand Oracle system.
Each of the 36 cards has been re-envisioned to reflect modern life, including twelve gender-inclusive ‘Person’ cards to better signify the people in your life. For those who are new to the Lenormand, included is a booklet which offers a comprehensive guide, including reading tips, spreads, and exercises to help you learn.
The deck is currently only available in French, but plans are underway to publish This Might Hurt Lenormand in english in 2027! This deck is incredibly close to my heart, and I can’t wait to see it in my own language.
